10 Overlooked SEO Optimization Secrets (Part 1) | Global Selling SEO Guide (1)

Possibly the most practical SEO beginner guide on the entire web

Here we go, family. I've finally decided to start this massive undertaking: SEO.

Why is it such a big deal?

Overconfident Beginner

I'm just a noob who hasn't achieved significant SEO results yet. So what gives me the right to create a "tutorial"?

The truth is, looking across the entire web, there's really very little useful SEO content out there. I remember the pain of not being able to find suitable learning materials when I first started learning about global selling. So I decided to give it a try. Plus, I think learning by teaching might force me to study more deeply.

Slow and Long Process

SEO is an extremely long-term project with hard-to-attribute results. But today's internet content ecosystem is all about quick wins. This kind of slow, low-efficiency content probably isn't very popular.

Of course, this can be solved through content strategy. Just like those famous bloggers on XHS recently.

"Day 18 of doing SEO, got my first big order!" "Day 25 of doing SEO, the joy of getting orders, who understands, family!"

With screenshots of orders from who-knows-where and incoherent copy, they still attract many beginners asking for advice. And unsurprisingly, they immediately redirect to paid courses.

Whether others are happy or understand, I don't know. But I really struggle to be happy. The real sellers around me are similar—either anxious about further growth or frustrated because learning new SEO knowledge means having to adjust a lot of content.

Too Systematic

SEO is a very systematic discipline, and I'm particularly lazy about doing comprehensive 0-to-1 beginner guides. This is the biggest reason I hesitated to start. If the content is comprehensive, it lacks focus and practicality. If it's not comprehensive, I'm afraid readers won't have enough background.

You've probably seen those on social media—beautiful screenshots with clickbait titles like "10 SEO Tips Every Beginner Must Learn." You click in, and it covers everything superficially. It tells you SEO has on-page, off-page, and technical aspects, then just copy-pastes concepts. Or it tells you technical SEO is all about code optimization for speed. It's all correct but useless nonsense. They don't tell you how to actually modify the code to optimize speed. They don't tell you where exactly to insert keywords for on-page SEO. It makes me angry every time I see this kind of content. Who doesn't want faster speed? Who doesn't want more keywords?

Of course, I understand—even if they really know, they have no obligation to tell you.

My SEO Content Positioning

Based on the above pain points, my SEO content positioning has three characteristics:

  1. From the perspective of a real beginner seller - What problems have I encountered? Have I solved them? What methods am I trying? What problems can't I solve? What am I learning? What progress have I made? I'll share all of this with you.

  2. As rigorous as possible - But I still hope you view it critically. After all, these are notes from a noob's learning journey. Not everything may be correct.

  3. Absolutely practical - No long-winded document copying. After reading each article or watching each video, I guarantee you'll immediately want to start optimizing.

Of course, pure beginners should still look at those "correct but useless" basics to get some concepts first.

10 Overlooked On-Page SEO Optimization Secrets (Part 1)

1. Home Page Meta Title and Meta Description

This is one of Shopify's least user-friendly SEO settings. Because it's "hidden" in an inconspicuous third-level menu.

Shopify Meta Settings Location

Although it's only 70+320 characters, this section is one of the most core and critical parts of independent site SEO. Because it defines what your independent site sells and what your site is about.

Looking back, I did see this content when I started, but I didn't understand anything at the time. And since it was hidden so deep and called "preferences," I just filled it in casually! Only later did I slowly realize how important this is.

Of course, early on, it's actually difficult for the homepage to rank. That is, even if you fill in accurate keywords here, your homepage will struggle to rank well because most e-commerce homepages are just "display" pages without much substantive content. Landing pages that better match user search habits are your product pages or collection pages—after all, users want to jump directly to a product page when searching for a specific product.

But this is absolutely not a reason to ignore this section. And if you're focusing on a niche category, or even 1-2 specific products, homepage SEO becomes particularly important.

My Universal Formula for Homepage Meta Title:

Adjective + Long-tail Keyword + Category Keyword + Brand Name

For example: Best Cooling Fast Dry Women Yoga T-shirt in UK | LVSAO

Homepage Meta Description:

Expand around keywords, depending on your specific category. Highlight services (free shipping, try for free), product features, product benefits, etc. I won't elaborate further.

Beginner Pitfall: Self-indulgent brand slogans like "Love what you love." Love your head! You're using this crucial space for useless stuff like this!

Due to length, I'll share the first secret in this issue. The remaining 9 secrets will continue in the next part.
