Starting October 15, channel budget controls began rolling out to Search, Shopping, Performance Max, and Demand Gen campaigns. Advertisers can mark channels as high or low priority. High-priority channels are funded first, with any remaining budget going to low-priority channels. Advertisers can also set a daily budget share for low-priority channels, but Google describes this as a best-effort limit rather than a hard cap. Settings can be applied at the account, shared-budget, or campaign level; availability depends on campaign type and rollout timing. Google Ads announcement Help Center guide

Shopify advertisers can review how their budgets are split across Search, search partners, the Display Network, and other Google channels. Google plans to migrate Search campaigns using Display Expansion to the new controls starting in February 2027. To preserve the current Display Network spend pattern, advertisers can set it to low priority and assign a 50% budget share. That share is calculated from the average daily budget and remains a best-effort target. At the time of the announcement, Google Ads API and Ads Editor support was listed as coming soon.

Demand Gen adds a data-strength metric and expands first-party data management

Google Ads is beginning to roll out the Data Strength Uplift metric, which helps advertisers see the conversion gains associated with their data setup in the Ads interface. Data Manager is expanding to Display & Video 360 and Google Analytics, making it easier to connect and manage first-party data across Google products. Enhanced Conversions support in DV360 and Google Analytics was described as coming soon, so it should not be treated as available to every account already. Demand Gen update Data Manager guide Enhanced Conversions guide

For a Shopify store, first check that consent settings, the Google tag, GA4, and Google Ads conversions are collecting data reliably. Then consider connecting first-party customer data. Enhanced Conversions uses hashed first-party conversion information to improve measurement, and still needs to be handled according to Google's data policies and user-consent settings.

Merchant Center and Google Shopping

Google launches Universal Cart across stores in the U.S.

Starting October 15, Universal Cart began rolling out in the U.S. across Google Search and the Gemini app. Shoppers can save products from different retailers in one list, track price drops and restocks, find offers, and either pay with Google Pay when a retailer supports it or continue checkout in the merchant's own cart. Google says many Shopify merchants are included. Merchants remain the seller of record and handle order confirmations and customer support. Google announcement

This shopping experience is rolling out to U.S. users; it does not mean every Shopify store now supports checkout inside Google. Stores selling to U.S. customers should keep product prices, inventory, images, and landing pages accurate in their feeds, then check eligibility in Merchant Center.

Merchant Center adds a warranty field for products targeting Quebec

For certain new electronics and household appliances covered by Quebec's Bill 29, Google added the [warranty] attribute to its product data specification so merchants can provide the required legal warranty duration in Shopping ads and free listings. Google's October announcement says merchants can start submitting it now and that display in ads and free listings is planned for later in 2026. The announcement describes submission as optional, while the current product specification marks it required for products whose ads or listings must show warranty details under local laws. Merchants remain responsible for complying with local law; the field's rollout does not waive that responsibility. Merchant Center announcement Product data specification Announcement log

If your store sells covered products to Quebec customers, identify which products are affected and keep the warranty duration on the product page consistent with the feed. The field name uses warranty(duration:duration_unit); for example, the field name is warranty(duration:duration_unit) and its value is 6:year. Bill 29 cases need the year unit.

Google updates its guidance on AI-generated site content, emphasizing fact-checking and product-data labels

On October 1, Google updated its guidance on generative AI content to incorporate related material from the Search Quality Raters Guidelines. The focus remains on whether content is accurate, reliable, and useful, rather than on whether AI was used. Quality-rater scores do not directly change an individual site's ranking. The guide specifically says to review AI-generated product titles, descriptions, structured data, and image alt text. Merchant Center also has separate labeling requirements for AI-generated product data and images. Search documentation update log AI content guidance Product data specification

If you use AI to produce Shopify product copy in bulk, verify specifications, prices, scope, and claims before publishing. Label AI-generated product data and images according to Merchant Center requirements. Publishing more AI-generated pages does not replace accurate product information or editorial review.

Search Central adds guidance for preventing user-generated spam

On October 26, Google updated its guide for user-generated content spam on websites and platforms. It adds advice on pages that are accessible only through a shared link and are not intended to appear in Search, along with ways to monitor unexpected indexing and traffic in Search Console. The guide recommends using signals such as user reputation, moderation, link attributes, and noindex to reduce spam comments and mass-created pages in search results. If your Shopify store or companion app allows reviews, Q&A, shared pages, or user-generated content, decide which pages should actually be discoverable in Search. Pages intended only for sharing or collaboration should not be indexed by default. Public product reviews and useful Q&A do not need to be blocked across the board.

Developers and APIs

Google Ads API v26.1 was released on October 28 as a minor update with no breaking changes. It adds fields such as CampaignBudget.budget_network_settings for channel priority and budget-share controls. Ad automation tools can use them to read or configure priorities and budget caps for Google-owned channels, search partners, and the Display Network. The earlier v26 release was a major version. The old enhanced_conversions_for_leads_enabled field for reading lead Enhanced Conversions status was removed; use enablement_setting instead. Before upgrading a client, check the v26 migration notes and update the field mapping. If you only need the newer channel-budget controls, also check the account-level rollout in the Ads interface.

Merchant API added v1alpha reports for the YouTube Shopping affiliate program. They can break performance down by creator, channel, video, product, and campaign, with fields for subscriber counts, commission splits, and productType. The Products sub-API also added videoLinks for submitting offer-level product videos at scale. Two UCP v1alpha reports can show checkout funnels, orders, cancellations, cart transfers, and product buy-button clicks across Search AI Mode and Gemini, segmented by date and customer country. Merchant API update log UCP reporting guide

These reports are mainly for merchants and integrators already using the YouTube Shopping affiliate program or UCP. UCP reporting is still in Alpha; queries must use v1alpha and include a date condition. Developers handling YouTube affiliate data must follow the new policies: do not combine creator or viewing data with individual customer records to identify people, and do not pass raw creator-level data to outside third parties.
