Must-Read for Cross-Border Independent Sites! Air Freight Courier Comparison: YunTu / Yanwen / 4PX / SF International
Comprehensive comparison of 4 major air freight courier services: YunTu, Yanwen, 4PX, and SF International. Detailed reviews covering service, pricing, delivery speed, and logistics products for independent site sellers.

Introduction: Shipping Basics and Process
Pure beginners can review previous series tutorials to understand the overall shipping process for cross-border ecommerce independent sites. First check if you've reached the stage of choosing a freight forwarder.
Disclaimer: Do your own research, compare. Among the big-name freight forwarders in the market, there are only a few. Visit all freight forwarder official websites, add sales reps, ask for quotes, then compare delivery time, price, and customer service response speed based on your target country and specific products.
Everyone has different subjective situations plus different service providers, resulting in vastly different user experiences. Different freight forwarders, different countries, different express products — prices vary greatly.
If you're not satisfied, just switch. When I started, I also searched social media for abstract questions like "which freight forwarder is reliable for newbies?" After searching, every company had critics. In the end, searching was useless and only added to selection anxiety — and indeed it is the case. Every company I've used occasionally has unsatisfactory aspects. What can you do? If you can't solve it, accept the default, and just pick one that satisfies you slightly more.

YunTu
YunTu is one of the most prominent air freight small parcel forwarders, and it's been my consistent choice from my first order until now.

1. Service & User Experience: 4 Stars
- Customer service: multiple channels, 8am-11pm phone service is noteworthy, exclusive WeChat small groups, QQ. Service response is timely.
- Special case handling: lost packages, failed deliveries, special item domestic warehouse handling — all acceptable. In most cases, overseas supports redelivery, domestic warehouse reshipping, etc.
- Overall user experience is good, especially after this year's system upgrade. Almost all commonly used functions and operations can be completed efficiently on both mobile and PC.
- Pickup: self-operated drivers + JD Express. Some areas not very flexible — for example, can't预约 (schedule) same-day pickup after noon.

2. Price: 3 Stars
- At certain times, for certain products, Europe and UK lines have very competitive prices. Australia line particularly outstanding this year.
- Others are mid-to-upper tier in the industry.
3. Delivery Speed: 4 Stars
Overall quite good. Looking at domestic transit time and tracking, YunTu's efficiency is indeed good. Taking my Shanghai location as example: from when goods arrive at YunTu warehouse, the latest is the third day they're on the plane. Try checking tracking with some other forwarders — the first 3 days they're still shuffling between various domestic warehouses.
4. Logistics Products: 4 Stars
Overall product line is relatively rich.
- Non-volume-based clothing line covers the most countries — very competitive.
- For those particularly concerned about "virtual warehouse" services and sufficient localization, they offer exclusive products for US and UK — YunXuan Special Line. The waybill you print directly uses the last-mile carrier's waybill.
- Europe defaults to paying VAT on your behalf — no IOSS needed.
- Other services include domestic transit forwarding, Amazon Walmart FBM, etc.
SF International (Shunfeng)
SF is terrifyingly strong domestically, but SF International is another story.

1. Service & User Experience: 2 Stars
- Overall service is average. Core communication method is QQ. I downloaded and installed QQ specifically for SF. Service hours are 8pm. Overall response is acceptable. No 1v1 customer service or WeChat group.
- Most failed delivery items don't support redelivery!! This is quite崩溃 (devastating). Domestic interception is also nearly useless — once entered warehouse, basically can't intercept!
- Digital user experience is nearly terrible. Platform is difficult to use, no mobile app or mini-program, every pickup requires finding customer service on QQ. I can't even conveniently check each order's price! Even ERP tracking number return has various bugs.
- Pickup is both good and bad. Good: SF itself handles pickup, basic service and speed guaranteed; most importantly flexible! You can call for pickup anytime on QQ. Bad: since SF International is relatively new business, most pickup drivers don't know how to operate, resulting in some communication costs.
2. Price: 3 Stars
Some countries or products may be far below average, such as UK line.
3. Delivery Speed: 3 Stars
Mid-to-lower tier. Don't be fooled by SF being the fastest domestically. Many city area packages take several days shuffling within China.
4. Logistics Products: 2 Stars
Europe requires IOSS to ship. Country regions and corresponding logistics products aren't very rich.
4PX

1. Service & User Experience: 3 Stars
- Customer service: exclusive WeChat small groups, timely response. But service hours aren't as intensive as YunTu — more standard work-life balance hours.
- Special case handling: for redelivery, some products require manually enabling to have a chance at redelivery.
- Overall user experience is good — PC or mini-program, overall smoother.
- Pickup: mainly self-operated drivers. Some areas not very flexible — can't schedule same-day pickup after noon.
2. Price: 3 Stars
Overall similar to YunTu, some slightly more expensive, some slightly cheaper — all depends on your product and destination country.
3. Delivery Speed: 4 Stars
Always competing with YunTu. At least on reference delivery times, both often stay consistent. 4PX even offers "guaranteed delivery time" service for UK area, but the cost is expensive and penalty for breach is low. It's a marketing concept anyway. Comprehensive comparison shows their speed isn't really faster or slower than others — upper-mid tier. But for some users this is fine — for special orders, spending money for peace of mind.
4. Logistics Products: 3 Stars
Product lineup is relatively rich for independent site players. Everything you need is there.
Yanwen

I basically don't use Yanwen much myself. Won't comment too much. Overall quotes and service are roughly similar, overall price slightly higher. But their product lineup is very rich — when you have special items (like oversized dimensions), you might find solutions at Yanwen. Also friendly to platform players.
Summary
For users, I know a ranking list is the most time-saving content. But I really don't want to do this — mainly because as said in the intro, it easily misleads readers; secondarily it's unfair to merchants. Every merchant has their own service characteristics, serving corresponding targeted customers. Why should I, a small fry, rank and judge who's good or bad?
Regarding my personal choice: currently mainly using SF, with YunTu as supplement. (see? Even though SF is quite terrible in many aspects in my view, due to my own special reasons, I still use it.)
For beginners, comprehensively speaking, directly using YunTu/4PX won't be too problematic. Once your business gets familiar, you can choose based on your own understanding.

Note: Almost all companies have no requirements for opening an account, and won't charge a penny. Some functions or services may require business licenses, but most just need personal information to open an account.
