How to Solve the Problem of Not Receiving Shopify SMS Verification Code - The Correct Way to Set Up Two-Step Authentication (37)

Recently, most domestic Shopify users in China cannot log in because they cannot receive SMS verification codes from domestic mobile phones.

This article will cover:

  1. What is two-step authentication?

  2. The correct way to set up two-step authentication

  3. How to solve the problem if you're already unable to log in

What is Two-Step Authentication?

Simply put, it refers to a second security login measure in addition to your account password to help protect account security. Common measures include: SMS verification code login, Authenticator App, email verification code, one-time temporary verification code, and other methods.

This article mainly covers two:

  • SMS Verification Code Login is one of the most familiar methods for domestic friends. In China, due to the real-name registration system for domestic phone numbers, when logging into certain platforms, we can choose to log in with account password, or choose to receive a verification code via mobile phone to log in directly. However, abroad, when you set up SMS as two-step verification, after entering your account password, you still need to check and enter the verification code received on your mobile phone to log in.

  • Authenticator App is a two-step verification method that is relatively unfamiliar to domestic players. After binding a third-party security verification App, each time you log into your account, you need to open the App and enter a time-limited random verification code to further log in. The mainstream authenticator app is Google's, no advertisement, works well, just bind your Google account.

The Correct Way

1. Where to Set Up in Shopify?

You can find the two-step authentication option in the Shopify admin settings page.

2. Set Up Two or More Two-Step Authentication Methods

Most platforms do not limit the number of two-step authentication methods. Therefore, the most correct approach is to set up two or more two-step authentication methods, thereby increasing security and reducing the impact of unexpected events.

For example, in this issue of Shopify Chinese mobile phone numbers being unable to receive verification codes, I was able to switch to the Authenticator App method in time to log in successfully.

Important Tip: It is strongly recommended to set up both SMS and Authenticator App verification methods simultaneously to prevent being unable to log in if one method fails.

What to Do If You Can't Receive the Code and Can't Log In

When in doubt, contact customer service, folks.

You're paying Shopify over 200 yuan a month in service fees, isn't that exactly for buying their service? So the only, quick solution is to contact customer service and ask them to cancel your previous mobile phone verification for you.

Whatever the customer service needs, you provide it. Whatever the customer service asks you to do, you do it.
