Today's anxiety-relief motivation for independent sellers:

Beyond the compounding growth potential, another attractive aspect of independent websites is that as you learn and practice, you'll have countless strategy ideas for improving your site.

You just need to settle down and implement them one by one. This keeps you hopeful - even if results aren't great right now, you know internally there's still a lot you haven't done well, and you roughly know what those things are and how to fix them.

This is completely different from platform e-commerce, where products largely determine success or failure (more supply-chain focused). The operational space exists, but compared to independent websites, it's night and day.

With independent websites, people say certain categories are saturated or hard to do. Yet countless people, even newcomers, are getting results in these categories. Independent websites are more about human effort.

If your site doesn't look good, let's beautify it together. Let's go - today I'll walk you through buying a legitimate theme and making your independent website beautiful.

Who Should Buy Themes?

Previously I covered 3 ways to beautify your site, and recommended ThemeForest for beginners.

I recommend buying themes when you have these characteristics:

  1. You've experienced free themes and are familiar with the features.
  2. You clearly know what features and aesthetic points you can't achieve with free themes.

Reasons:

  1. Paid themes are slightly more complex to operate and set up - after all, they have more features. But more doesn't mean you need them all. Beginners struggle to subtract, and can easily make things worse.
  2. Reduce cost investment - themes cost several hundred. Play with free themes first, and if it's not working out, you can exit without losing money on the theme.

But beginners should never think beautiful, functional independent websites are out of reach! Go for it!

1. How to Choose the Right Theme

This is why I recommend beginners experience free themes first. By then you'll know what you need and can search for themes accordingly.

Even for pure beginners, there are a few judgment methods:

  1. Buy high-sales themes - at least validated by many sellers. (If you want something newer, look for themes uploaded within the past year with high sales)
  2. Try various demos on the official site and check Changelogs to ensure monthly updates.

Honestly, after researching, these themes are all quite similar.

2. Place Order and Pay

After selecting a theme, checkout requires registering an email. This email receives the download link and license validation.

I usually register directly with Gmail.

Payment options include credit cards, even UnionPay. PayPal is also available with an extra $3 processing fee. For global sellers, use PayPal - earn from there, spend from there.

Payment Interface

You'll receive an email after payment.

3. Download, Install, and Authenticate

Go back to the theme's official site - there will be tutorials on how to install.

Generally, you'll download a compressed file, extract it, and upload the corresponding file to your Shopify. (See your theme's specific tutorial)

After uploading, follow instructions to authenticate.

4. Start Building

Don't rush - the theme is only in your draft, not officially published. Take your time optimizing.

When everything looks good, publish it.
