Weekly Revenue 10K+, Is This the 'Passive Income' Everyone Talks About?
两周没怎么搞站,维持基础运营,日均投入1-2小时。这算是独立站'睡后收入'的极限了。给想做副业的人一些真实建议:很难、净收入不高、杂事很多。

Passive Income - Really That Good?
Over these two weeks, I didn't spend much time on the store. Just maintained the most basic operations:
- Shipping
- Handling after-sales
- Occasional social media
Google ads just run on their own - no need to touch them. More time went into content creation.
Also spent time thinking about new business, though progress is slow or even zero, but I think it's necessary to think things through.
Is This the Limit of "Passive Income"?
Back to the actual business - I think this is pretty much the limit of "passive income" from independent sites? Average 1-2 hours daily on store operations.
So here's a reference for those wanting passive income through side hustles.
Note: This is after 10 months of effort. And I didn't go the social media route (if I did, I'd need much more time finding content and products. Instead, I rely on users actively searching to complete conversions passively.)
Whether it's hard or not, judge for yourselves.
Real Advice for Passive Income Seekers
First, Some Cold Water
1) It's Hard!
Time-wise: Can you commit for 6+ months? (I was practically all-in during those 6 months)
Money-wise: Not huge, but you need several thousand for basics + several thousand weekly for ads, right?
Capabilities and resources: My strength is in marketing. Though no product advantage, China's competitive supply chain made up for it. Other areas aren't weak either. I'm lucky to have some first-mover advantage. What about you? Do you have any strengths?
If you're still fantasizing about side hustle + free traffic + passive explosive orders, please scroll away.
2) Net Income Really Isn't High
Those scam influencers keep hyping arbitrage. Gross margin looks high, but what about shipping? Traffic costs? After calculation, you really don't make much.
3) Lots of Miscellaneous Tasks
You won't be able to just work 1 hour peacefully after work then sleep soundly. If you lack self-drive, don't come.
Now Some Encouragement
1) It's Dynamic, Growing, Sustainable, and Compounding
Remember what I said in my annual review? When it's a process that can grow, compound, and sustain, I instantly feel at peace! Even filled with energy.
This is what attracts many independent site players and newcomers. It's also a natural advantage for side hustlers - your main job keeps funding you, no need to worry about livelihood.
2) It Belongs to Us Side Hustlers!
It's slowly getting better, and it always belongs to us. This isn't a company product! You work hard and the company grows, but they won't give you what you think you deserve (most likely). Worse case, they kick you out. Plus all that workplace emotional drain!
This is the benefit of entrepreneurship people talk about - success or failure is in your own hands.
3) Extremely Strong Growth! You're Responsible for Results!
Employee mindset vs. doing your own thing is completely different.
Working at an agency, you don't even need to be responsible for project results. You don't need to answer to clients. You curse them as idiots while half-assing the work. Whatever, sales don't concern you.
Working in-house, you're not responsible for final results either. Good or bad performance - you can't attribute it all to yourself since colleagues upstream and downstream are all trying.
But when you personally run an independent site, the whole chain is long - product, marketing, fulfillment. You see problems from a complete owner's perspective. When spending 200k of client or boss's money, you whine about low budget. When it's your own business and 1000 in ad spend comes from your own wallet, it hurts. Zero orders? You can only silently curse yourself as useless, so you're forced to learn real skills and improve.
Recommendation
Establish a clear, vertically segmented brand and product positioning, forcing yourself to operate with refinement and depth.
- Search traffic: SEO is your most promising, compoundable growth value
- Social media traffic: Followers are your most promising, compoundable growth value
Then, if you don't have huge ambitions to go full-time, you can gradually reduce investment and achieve passive income. The prerequisite is maintaining continuous operation in this field.
Those who want to hit and run, looking for quick money - don't use independent sites for side hustles. 99% will quit directly.
