SEO Part 7: What Exactly is Guest Blog That Everyone Talks About?

SEO Part 7: What Exactly is Guest Blog That Everyone Talks About?

This issue moves into Off-Page SEO, focusing on one of the strategies mentioned in Off-page: Guest Blog.

Let me start with the conclusion:

For solo sellers new to independent sites, unless you're in a very specific niche or are an industry expert, do not spend too much energy researching guest blog. To be more absolute: DO NOT SPEND ANY ENERGY RESEARCHING IT!

I know you're anxious, but hold on.

(Some new readers might think: what kind of trash blogger is this? Other bloggers show off and output tutorials, but this one only teaches people NOT to do things, or says various strategies don't work. I think he's just trash himself. Hoho, those who know, know. Think about how anxiety is manufactured, and think about whether the essence and answer to many things is the simplest one. Stationery sellers won't complain about having too many poor students.)

What: What is Guest Blog?

As mentioned before, many newcomers studying SEO will see various professional terms, methods, and tools, then become like headless flies, thinking everything is something you must do, but feeling like you can't do anything right.

Let me say it again: you're not doing it wrong, your understanding is wrong.

I've said many times that SEO is a comprehensive digital marketing strategy that can be used by any industry to help them grow. Let me give two examples:

  • Me, as a global selling rookie in retail, need SEO to help me sell products;
  • Or if I have a side business besides selling goods, researching global selling and independent site marketing knowledge - that's a service industry. If I want to sell courses, I also need SEO. When someone searches for "global selling," I hope potential customers can find me first.

So you see, marketing people in these two different industries will both use SEO, but will develop different SEO strategies. Guest Blog is more suitable for the latter.

Its basic meaning is: I need to publish my professional knowledge blog posts on websites or media that are more powerful and professional than mine, thereby helping me gain endorsement and even add a backlink to my own blog website.

Let me expand this example: I created Metabrandl.com, an independent site service website. Besides writing tutorials on my own blog every day, I need other ways to get traffic, right? For example, I've researched independent site global selling SEO quite deeply, and this is also one of my monetization directions.

So I might try Guest Blog - attempting to submit articles to leading SEO websites like Semrush or Ubersuggest. I recommend myself, writing to them: "Hey bosses, I'm an expert focused on independent site e-commerce SEO with 15k+ followers. I think my research content matches your audience well, especially this article I'm writing: 'How I Make 10k Dollars Monthly Through Shopify SEO.' Hope to guest blog. Please?"

They look at it and think: "Hey, this guy actually has some influence and the content is pretty good." They happily accept and both sides proceed to the next step.

That's how a mutually beneficial Guest Blog collaboration is completed. I gain:

  1. Stronger endorsement: I can brag now, writing in all my bios: "As Featured In Semrush." Isn't that enough to dazzle newcomers?
  2. More traffic and visibility: My guest blog will be published on Semrush, my bio will definitely include metabrandl; Semrush readers will see it and think "this guy writes pretty well, let me search metabrandl."

And Semrush gains: More diverse professional content - their cost to maintain internal editors is high, so to make website content more diverse, they'll definitely attract external excellent writers.

Why: Why Don't I Recommend New Solo Sellers Do This?

From the example above, you should clearly feel that only by becoming an expert in a field can you possibly output Guest Blog content, and only then will others possibly accept your guest blog.

Fellow solo sellers, don't we know what we're like? We can't even copy products correctly. You mindlessly搬运 from 1688 to sell pet supplies, but you've never even raised a dog - you can't tell the difference between a chest strap and a collar. And you want to write guest blogs?

Some show-offs say: "AI is so powerful now, I'll use AI to write and then submit." Go ahead, write and submit all you want.

But some people and products are different. For example, professionals in B2B or niche products who have worked in their industry for years, deeply understanding industry characteristics and product features - they are naturally experts. You don't even need to say they'll actively write Guest Blogs; in reality, they often receive calls from consulting companies asking for paid consultations.

How: I Insist on Wanting to "Guest Blog" - Tell Me How!

If you really want to use the guest blog strategy, you can actually change your angle and identity!

You can be like Semrush - attract writers in your industry to write free content for you. Aren't you always worrying about not knowing how to write blogs, not being able to write, or being too lazy to write? Well, now the path is clear.

You can actively seek KOLs, experts, and writers in your industry and invite them to write guest blogs on your website. This way you get free high-quality content, and they get a platform to showcase and backlinks. Win-win!
