Cross-Border E-commerce Independent Site Daily Operations Guide (3)! Traffic Operations: SEO Optimization!
A comprehensive guide to daily SEO optimization for cross-border ecommerce independent websites. Covers long-tail keywords, content updates, off-page promotion, and backlink building.

In our previous episode, we mainly discussed the importance of regularly optimizing your product presentation (body) and website structure (skeleton) for your independent site. Daily Operations Optimization Guide for Cross-Border E-commerce Independent Sites (2)! Product Presentation + Website Framework.
In this episode and going forward, we're formally entering the most challenging key phase of an independent site: Traffic and Channel Operations (the lifeblood). The overall traffic operations can be divided into several major branches: Google SEO, Social Media Content Operations, Paid Advertising Operations (Google SEM + Social Media Ads like TikTok, Meta), and Channel Operations.
Note: Strategies vary greatly depending on your product category. For example, jewelry relies more on social media; innovative products may get results faster through channels; tools and equipment categories depend more on SEO or SEM. These branches are not strictly isolated but influence each other.
Put simply, traffic operations are exceptionally "scattered" and "complex." 90% of independent site newbies fail at this stage. Here are the main reasons:
1)Wrong Positioning: Starting wrong can lead to步步错 (mistakes at every step). Go back and review my positioning guides. Daily Operations Optimization Guide (1)! What Does "Optimize Your Site" Actually Mean?
2)Wrong Methods: Simply lacking marketing expertise. Don't worry, this series is here to help solve that.
3)Wrong Cognition: Having unrealistic and inaccurate perceptions about various tasks and about yourself, ultimately leading to anxiety and burnout. Don't worry, this series is here to help.
4)Wrong Attitude: Being both greedy and lazy. This truly cannot be saved.
This episode will focus on Google SEO and teach you what daily SEO optimization work you can do! Although I've already done a hands-on series: Hands-On Cross-Border E-commerce SEO (9): How to Write an SEO-Friendly Blog Post
I won't elaborate too much on SEO concepts, but it's crucial to have the correct understanding of SEO! (This relates to mistake #3 above!) Complete beginners can check my previous content: The Ultimate SEO Summary! Everything You Need to Know About SEO as a New Cross-Border E-commerce Seller

SEO Daily 1: Regularly Explore More Long-Tail Keywords
Many beginners, including myself at the start, feel confused when seeing terms like "keywords" and "long-tail keywords," especially for cross-border e-commerce sellers. We're just selling "dog leashes" on an independent site—what keywords are there to research? Dog leash IS my keyword!! As a result, beginners have no idea how to approach daily SEO optimization.
The root cause is: you're not deeply immersed in your chosen industry and among your users to truly discover user needs.
Let's use "dog leash" as an example to explore related long-tail keywords together. Remember, ALWAYS approach this from the user's perspective—assume you're a user looking to buy a leash. What would you search for?
What special features does your dog leash have? What specific needs does it meet for specific groups?
- Hands-free dog lead
- No-pull dog lead
- Two-dog lead, multi-dog lead
- Tangle-free double dog lead
- Dog lead for large dogs
- Dog lead for golden retriever
Other aspects include materials, colors, and more. You'll realize that simply the word "dog lead" can theoretically yield unlimited long-tail keywords.
The next step is to return to your own products, optimize your product descriptions and image alt text. If your leash has no-pull functionality, have you written it in your title and description?
If you understand your industry and user needs deeply enough, you can write sharper content:
No pull dog lead, best for large dogs like golden retriever. Hands-free & Tangle free dog lead suitable for jogging with dogs
This isn't just my wishful thinking—it's cross-referenced through personal user experience, industry insight, and tool-assisted data analysis. The obvious truth is: the longer the tail keyword, the smaller the search volume, the easier it is to rank. For cross-border sellers, even more importantly, the longer the tail keyword, the more urgent the user need, and the higher the conversion likelihood.
Folks, you can't compete for the big market. But a small niche can provide enough for you to celebrate!

SEO Daily 2: Regularly Update Content Based on Keywords and User Needs
Once the SEO optimization of your product content is complete, we need to optimize SEO through more content, such as writing Blog posts. At this point, we still need to approach it from the user's needs perspective.
For example, when I'm preparing to write about electric toothbrushes, I'll search on Xiaohongshu and Douyin: Which is better, aaa or bbb? Best electric toothbrush recommendations for 2024, things to note about electric toothbrushes, can sensitive teeth use electric toothbrushes? And so on.
For users outside China globally, they rely heavily on Google searches to solve their problems.
Questions like: What's the best material for dog leashes? Preparing to raise a golden retriever, what's the most suitable leash length? Recommendations for three-dog leashes? How to fix a broken leash? How to train puppies to not pull on the leash? Can Labradors use prong collars?

You'll discover countless pieces of content you can create. So tell me you're bored with nothing to do for daily SEO? Publish one piece for me every day!

SEO Daily 3: Off-Page Content Distribution SEO
Actively distribute your content to social media, forums, and more. Such as YouTube, Reddit, Quora, Facebook. You can even create platform-specific content, like a YouTube video or Quora Q&A: "how to choose a suitable dog leash for your yorkie in 2024."

SEO Daily 4: Off-Page Backlinks
Hands-On SEO Guide Part 7: What Exactly is Guest Blog?
Quality backlinks are the most effective SEO strategy for your independent site's overall performance (bar none). Whether you use Guest Blog, Paid Link Exchange, or other specific methods, it deserves your daily effort and resource investment—and it's massive. Trust me, if you're not particularly wealthy, this work will definitely consume significant energy and time, but it's worth it.
