Why Use Glossary

Brand Consistency

Ensure product names, slogans, and brand terms are translated consistently across all languages.

Market-Specific Terms

Set different preferred translations for different markets and regions.

Quality Control

Maintain technical and industry-specific terminology accuracy.

Setup Steps

Open Glossary

Navigate to Glossary in the app sidebar to access the glossary management page.

Add a New Term

  1. Click Add Term or the plus button
  2. Enter the source term exactly as it appears in your content
  3. Enter the preferred translation
  4. Select the target language (or "All Languages")

Be specific with your terms. If you have "Summer Sale" and "Summer Sale 2024", create separate glossary entries for each.

Set Language Scope

Choose whether the glossary rule applies to:

  • All Languages — The term will be translated consistently across every language
  • Specific Language — The rule only applies to the selected language

Use "All Languages" for brand names that should remain consistent. Use specific languages for market-specific terms.

Save the Term

Click Save to add the glossary rule. The rule becomes active immediately for future translations.

Re-translate Affected Content

Glossary rules only apply to future translations. To apply them to existing content:

  1. Go to Translations
  2. Select the resource type containing the term
  3. Filter for items with the term (or select all)
  4. Run a new translation job

After re-translation, the glossary term will be applied consistently across all selected content.

Review and Refine

Check the translated output to ensure the glossary terms are applied correctly. Refine terms as needed and re-translate if necessary.

Best Practices

  • Start with key brand terms — Focus on your most important terminology first
  • Be consistent — Use the same source term format throughout your content
  • Test on a small batch — Try glossary rules on a few items before large translations
  • Review regularly — Update glossary as your product line or brand evolves
  • Document your terms — Keep a record of why certain translations were chosen

Glossary rules are case-sensitive. "Summer Sale" and "summer sale" will be treated as different terms.
